Getting ready to scrape to map at #IC12nl

2012 March 2

Or rather, to place a call for action at next week’s Infographics 2012. The topic of my presentation is ‘Scrape to map’. I plan to talk about the data explosion (just a bit), then on to projections and visualisation (as per special request) and will end with ‘how geography may help to tell great stories’. All the –basic- stuff your really need to know in order to scrape data for maps, but a bit different from What journalist needs to know about making maps.

As for the process, I am ‘on schedule’. I have received input from several colleagues and hope to get some more feedback next week. The mindmap is done, the presentation itself is way to big (as always one week before a ‘deadline’).

Some of the things I might just say next week “this may be one world, but there are many ways to express that world”, “doing it right is just as hard as doing it wrong”, or “if content is king, it is maps that rule our world”. Then again, I hardly ever say what I plan to say beforehand. During presentations, that is.

Really looking forward to this one and hope to see you there!

PS I now notice that my presentation will be in Dutch…I’ll leave the slides in (d)english!
